Originally a hunting ground for native Americans, the quaint community of Rising Sun Indiana wasn't officially registered by its new name until 1816. Discovered in 1814 by John James of Fredericksburg, Maryland he decided upon the quaint name after awaking one morning to the scenic sun rising over the Kentucky hills.
When you're not roaming the streets in hopes of catching a glimpse of that esteemed sun rise, or participating in the excitement at one of their festivals, stop by the Dagaz Acres to take part in an exhilarating zip-lining session. All visitors to Rising Sun can learn about its rich history at the informative Ohio County Historical Museum, pickup some unique suds at Rising Sun Soaps, or buy antiques and other cute gifts for friends and family at one of the welcoming shops along the road.
